Portland City Councilor Koyama Lane calls for recommitment to Vision Zero
Portlanders continued to take to the streets to protest on Saturday night, despite facing a massive surge in Federal presence including US Army personnel. This is an immediate follow through on threats posed by the Trump regime to deploy troops in order to “protect” ICE facilities they claim to be “under siege.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi added that she would use whatever agents she can under the Department of Justice to reinforce ICE facilities across the country including Portland. This could potentially include the FBI, the DEA, the ATF and the US Marshall Service.
The uptick in Federal agents followed just hours after this rhetoric, yet this has not stopped Portlanders from standing up. One instance being the ICE Out of Portland encampment which has been protesting 24/7 at the ICE processing facility for over 110 days.
The protest which has withstood tear-gas, pepper balls, rubber bullets, vomiting agents and various other crowd control weapons has been a focus of the Trump regime, who has promised to “Wipe them out” earlier this month.
Blackhawk helicopter circled the protest site from an incredibly low altitude last night as residents across Portland reported similar ones patrolling the city.
“I just don't get it” stated one resident from Gray's Landing, an apartment building that shares a block with the ICE facility.
They would go onto add “This has been a peaceful protest, I have watched them all this whole time. I just don't get why they (Federal Troops) are here.”
In addition to Blackhawks, surveillance drones and Marine spotters kept tabs on attendees to the demonstration; including an interfaith solidarity march which moved silently past the facility distributing flowers.
Local activists continue to remain unfazed by what many are calling an invasion by the Federal government, as impromptu demonstrations continue to spring up across the city.
“Trump thinks he can scare us, but all this fascist bullshit just brings more people on outside. The People of Portland ain't having it. ICE ain't welcomed here, they ain't welcomed anywhere in America.” - Unidentified ICE Out of Portland Demonstrator
